Dundrake is an old city built on the limestone foundation of even older and mysterious settlements from prehistory. Over the centuries the denizens of Dundrake dug mines into the bedrock beneath their feet and excavated the stone that was raised into mighty walls and towers that soon soared above the nascent capitol. When the vast and sprawling cavities below the new city on the surface became a danger due to sinkholes and collapse, the mining operations ceased and the multitudinous and overcrowded cemeteries were emptied and the remains of the dead exhumed and relocated into the tunnels below. The many miles of abandoned quarries, catacombs and ancient ruins beneath the city are colloquially known as the Underdrake.

There are even certain inhabited areas that lay within such as the slum district of Everdim.
